Ongole: Opposition leader and YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy warned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of “dire consequences” if he continue to neglect the flagship programmes introduced by his father late YS Rajasekhar Reddy.

Addressing the Maha Dharna organised to demand adequate funds for Arogyasri scheme in front of Prakasam district collectorate here on Friday, Jagan told Naidu to change his behaviour or face the wrath of the public in near future.

The YSRCP chief lamented that the TDP government was trying to erase his father from the hearts of people by renaming and neglecting the programmes like Arogyasri, fee reimbursement and housing schemes.

On the occasion, Jagan met a few people, who were allegedly denied treatment under Arogyasri, speak at the protest.

One Venkateswarlu said that he was suffering from kidney problem, but was rejected treatment under Arogyasri. He said he had spent Rs. 4 lakh for treatment in private hospitals but to no avail.

Jaganmohan Reddy said that his father always dreamt of welfare of the poor man. “He believed that poor families go bankrupt when they are forced to foot huge medical bills and pay fees to their children.

Hence he introduced Arogyasri and fee reimbursement. As the poor remember the late leader due to his programmes, Naidu wants to dilute the schemes.

During YSR rule, 108 vehicle used to arrive in 20 minutes after an emergency call. But now no one can tell whether or when the ambulance comes,” he said.

The YSRCP chief alleged Naidu was trying to withdraw the programs started by YS Rajasekhar Reddy. He said Arogyamitra played a key role in implementation of Arogyasri but Naidu government abolished them just days after he assumed power.

He said the State government had sanctioned a mere Rs 560 crore, including arrears of Rs 395 crore, as against the Rs. 910 crores required for the implementation of Arogyasri scheme. “Moreover, the government made 133 diseases to be exclusively treated at the government hospitals,” he said.

He said he was not against government hospitals offering the treatment for specified disease, but there were no specialists and infrastructure in them and the government does not care to provide them.

“At the end, the poor patients are forced to go to the private hospitals and pay lakhs of rupees by taking loans. This is why the number of Arogyasri registrations in the State fell from 2,000 to 1,200 these days.

I am warning Naidu to not to try to neglect the fee reimbursement, Arogyasri, housing and other programmes.

We are issuing an ultimatum to the Chief Minister to change his behaviour towards the poor or face the wrath of them. If he does not heed the demand of these public, we will intensify the agitation and force him to implement those programmes.”
