Villagers seek package on par with Bhogapuram airport

Srikakulam: People of all affected villages of proposed Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) are demanding rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) package on par with Bhogapuram airport.

State government is paying Rs 34 lakh per acre as compensation for lands acquired for the airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, while revenue officials proposed to pay Rs 11.25 lakh as compensation per acre in Kovvada NPP-affected villages.

For the proposed NPP, a total of 2,074 acres of land is required which is spread over seven villages, Maruvada, Tekkali, Jeerukovvada, Kotapalem,Kov vada, Ramachandrapuram and Gudem in Ranastalam mandal. Of the total land, 684 acres are assigned lands, 791 acres are government lands, 599 acres are private lands.

Total houses in seven villages are 1,983 and population is 7,960. At present revenue officials proposed to pay around Rs 13 lakh as compensation per acre land in Kovvada NPP-affected villages. But people are demanding Bhogapuram kind of package by saying that NPP is a Central government unit.

‘For the last 30 years, urveys have been going on for NPP and we are vexed with it and decided to handover our lands if government pays us on par with Bhogapuram airport package’ said Kovvada village sarpanch, Mylapalli Polisu, former sarpanch, Mylapalli Jaggulu, MPTC, Allipalli Ramudu, Kotapalem sarpanch, S Dhanunjaya and Ranastalam MPP, Gorle Vijay.

‘Market values (Government rates) are different at Kovvada in Ranastalam mandal and at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district because of the variation compensation rates are different in two places’ special deputy collector (SDC) for land acquisition of NPP, J Sitarama Rao and Srikakulam revenue divisional officer (RDO), Balivada Dayanidhi told The Hans India.


Market value at Kovvada area is Rs 4.50 lakh for per acre, basing on it we calculated compensation amount by taking all rules and regulations of the government into consideration including New Land A cquisition Act of 2013 and decided to pay Rs 11.25 lakh per acre and will decide structure values later Ranastalam tahsildar, Sanapala Sriramulu explained in detail to The Hans India.
