Visakhapatnam: New born babies and their mothers had a miraculous escape when a fire broke out on the first floor of Victoria General Hospital in the old city on Friday evening.

A fire tender rushed to the spot and put out the fire. There were no casualties.
Sparks resulted in a short circuit in the AC machine at about 4.15 pm and the smoke spread to the entire floor.

All the new born and their mothers were shifted from the floor while two of them were sent to King George Hospital. As per preliminary inquiry, three baby warmers and three AC machines were destroyed.

“We have Rs 30 lakh worth equipment in the hospital and have to verify the extent of the damage,’’ said superintendent of the hospital Dr K Padmaleela.
This is for the first time a fire mishap took place in the hospital, popularly known as Gosha Hospital.
