Tirupati: South Central Railway (SCR) is contemplating with the idea of setting up water recycling plants to recycle the used water in Tirupati railway Station. In line with the national effort to conserve water, it is proposed to establish two plants having the capacity of four lakh litres each at a cost of Rs.2 crores very soon.

  • Recycling plants will cost Rs 2 crore and will ensure that the water used for cleaning the coaches will not get wasted
  • It will be recycled and filtered to make it ready for another round of cleaning other coaches

The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Amitabh Ojha inspected the site at the station on Sunday and held discussions with the officials. Later speaking to the media he said that with these plants, the water used for cleaning the coaches will not get wasted. It will be recycled and filtered to make it ready for another round of cleaning other coaches.

DRM also said that a laundry will be established in Tirupati railway station with the private partnership under BOT (build, operate and transfer) mode. This will facilitate to wash more bed rolls and maintain cleanliness well in time to meet the increasing demand. The estimated cost of this is Rs.50 lakhs.

The proposed development works in Tiruchanoor Station will begin very soon for which Rs.6 crores were ear marked in the 2017-18 budget. They will be completed in 10 months, said Ojha. In view of the heavy load of train movement in Tirupati it is proposed to introduce Route relay interlocking (RRI) system at a cost of Rs.1 crore in Tirupati station, Ojha said.

It will help the signaling system in a better way. The SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav will inspect the Pakala-Dharmavaram Route on 23rd where the doubling works will be taken up. Tirupati Station Manager M Subodh Mithra, Liason officer Kuppala Satyanarayana and RPF CI Nagarjuna Rao were with the DRM.
