Wind energy picks up pace; five mandals identified
Kakinada: With solar power’s growing popularity both at the national and state-levels, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has taken steps to promote the generation of wind energy through its nodal agency NREDCAP.
Kakinada: With solar power’s growing popularity both at the national and state-levels, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has taken steps to promote the generation of wind energy through its nodal agency NREDCAP.
Nationally, the Noida-based NIWE (National Institute of Wind Energy) is meeting the needs of nodal agencies. To cater to the energy needs of coastal districts of the State, SRR( Solar Radiance Research Station) has already been set up at Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) in Rajamahendravram to identify the potential areas of local wind energy production.
Accordingly, five mandals in the district have been identified to take up the production of wind energy. Rajanagaram, Rangampeta, Tondangi, and Peddapuram and Ainavalli are found to be suitable to take up the production of wind energy.
Through setting up wind power generation units with a capacity of 1KV-5KV, small entrepreneurs, individual industrial units would be able to save their power bills. Further, SRR is expected to make suggestions on ideal locations from time to time for establishing wind power units.
NREDCAP’s district manager G Satyanarayana said that as part of promoting wind energy at the national level, a workshop was organized at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh on Feb16. Representatives of NREDCAP from the southern states and North East took part in the workshop.
While establishing wind power units in the district, SRR station will be taken into consideration, the DM clarified.
