Hyderabad: Fearing political backlash during the budget session which is scheduled to begin from March 10, the state government has not taken any decision on revision of power tariff. This decision has resulted in the discoms missing date with the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) once again.

The government is unlikely to submit tariff proposals before the end of the budget session. The TS discoms were to submit the proposals by January 31. They could not do it since they did not get clearance from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. So far the discoms had taken three extensions and the latest one came to an end on Monday.

However, TSERC sources indicated that they would take a decision on the revision of tariff in a day or two. The TSERC in February had threatened to take suo motu decision if proposals were not submitted but deferred the decision following request of more time from the discoms.

As per rules the TSERC has to finalise the tariff for the power consumption in the state by end of March so that the new tariff comes into effect from April 1.

When contacted, the TSERC sources said they would take a decision on the issue in a day or two. Sources in TSERC said that meeting would be held by the chairman of the commission to discuss the issue on Tuesday.

The sources said that the TSERC is not in a mood to give more extension to the power utilities to file tariff proposals and it may consider initiating suo motu action on the determination of the power tariff.

Power distribution companies had submitted their aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) proposals to the TSERC in November last year but it did not submit the tariff proposals yet.
