Rajamahendravaram: The revenue authorities are acquiring land from tribals for the Polavaram project by taking small parcel of land from them and later forcing them to give the remaining land for throw-away prices since tribals are left with no option. They are also allegations that land acquisition was done as per records or were paid specified compensation.

Highlights:

  • Adivasis claim that govt officials ar indulging in all kinds of tricks to acquire lands at a throw-away price since they possess half or one acre land
  • A tribal claims that authorities initially acquire a small portion of their land under survey number and use the remaining land as a dumping yard and forcing us to beg to take the remaining land

It is very clear that the authorities are acquired small portion of land intentionally from tribals and forcing them to give the remaining land voluntarily. Left with no option, the evacuees are begging the authorities to take their remaining land. According to sources, authorities acquire a small part of land as per notification and then make the remaining land a dumping yard, forcing Adivasis to give up their land for whatever price offered.

For instance, in Nagampalli village of Sithanagaram mandal, the revenue officials did not acquire lands completely according survey numbers and left remaining land expecting tribal to their lands on their own. Normally, Adivasis possess small holdings like half-a-acre or one acre but officials do now show any sympathy.

For example, officials take 32 cents out of one acre leaving 68 cents and conspired that tribals will give remaining land on their own. Compensation of Rs 1.50 lakh per one acre was paid 10 years back. The authorities have acquired 37 cents of land out of 40 cents from Samsani Venkayamma of Nagampalli village leaving three cents.

She is wondering on what she will do with three cents and begging the authorities to pay some compensation for that remaining land. In case of Ambati Surayya, 15 cents has been taken out of 60 cents of land and he is alleging that the remaining land is being used as dumping yard. Similarly, six cents has been taken out of 40 cents from Kakulapati Saramma and 11 cents has been taken out of 40 cents from Podugu Marthamma.

In Nagampalli, the authorities have taken land from 22 farmers and left five to 15 cents in every survey number. As the leftover land has become useless, the evacuees are pleading for some sort of compensation, but these lands have transformed as dumping yards.

The Adivasi farmers are demanding for full pledged compensation for their lands by altering the irregularities took place in the first phase of land acquisition for Polavaram project and are demanding compensation for land which has become waste due to irrational acquisition.
