Watery grave for 13 in Anantapur
At least 13 persons were killed in a boat capsize in a pond at Yerra Thimmappa (YT) Cheruvu village near here in Anantapur district on Friday evening.

The victims were identified as Yarramma (35), Spandana (6), Sudhakar (4), Lakshmi (14), Lavanya (14), Durga (20), Nitin Kumar (4) Gopi (7), Gokul (3) and Bhavani (13). All the victims hailed from Guntakal, YT Cheruvu village, Pendulapadu and Vancharla villages.
According to information, they all set out to reach YT Cheruvu village by ferrying across the pond in a country boat. The boat was said to have capsized midway as it was overloaded with 20 people on its way back.
When the bodies of 13 victims were recovered, rescue operations were in a full swing for others. It was a religious gathering reached Guntakal to witness dedication of a dwaja sthambham in a temple.
The district administration pressed into service swimmers for rescue operations. Of the 13 dead, 4 were women, 5 were boys and another 4 were girls. Two girls were rescued and admitted in a local government general hospital.
