Tirupati: A new CT scan unit was set up at SVR Ruia Government General Hospital replacing the old one which was not functioning properly, to cope with increased patients. The new unit was formally inaugurated by Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister claimed that the facilities have improved significantly in government hospitals and informed that Tirupati, Kurnool and Guntur be provided MRI units very soon. One more hospital which will get both CT scan and MRI is Anantapur, he added.

The Minister said one can notice a perceptible change in attitude of people towards government hospitals with improved sanitation, construction of buildings and purchase of new medical equipment. He stated that the government is committed to the welfare of poor.

Dialysis facility was confined only to Tirupati, he said and added that Srikalahasti and Chittoor are also having dialysis facility and Madanapalle will also get soon. The SVIMS is having 70 dialysis units and another 30 will be opened soon. Diagnostic services are being provided in house under public and private partnership, he averred.

Earlier, he asked doctors to prescribe generic medicines only and not branded tablets. The government will bring guidelines on generic medicines soon, he said. Kamineni expressed shock over the sudden death of Minister Narayana’s son in a road accident in Hyderabad. He paid his condolences to Minister’s family.

In another programme held in Satyavedu, the Minister performed the bhoomi pooja for the construction of modern Community Health Centre building at a cost of Rs 7.44 crore. Satyavedu MLA Talari Aditya and BJP leader Kola Anand
