Tirupati: The doyen in the field of Sanskrit and the first Vice-Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) Prof NS Tatacharya (90) has passed away in Mumbai on Monday. He was ailing for the last six months and was taking treatment in Mumbai where his son was residing. He served in Kendriya Vidyapeetha in Tirupati as Reader and Principal. After it was upgraded as a deemed university as RSVP, he became the first V-C of it in 1989 and was in office till 1994.

Tatacharya has laid strong foundation for many departments and gave a direction to the Vidyapeetha. He was also the visiting faculty at French Institute of Pondicherry. He authored number of books on Nyaya Sastra and was recipient of President Award and received Padma Bhushan in 2016. He was also the recipient of Chevalier, the highest civilian award of the French government. Her daughter Prof N Latha is presently the Head of the Department of Education in RSVP here
