The women from various places in the Prakasam district raised their voice against the opening of wine shops in the residential areas on Monday. A Padma, a resident of the village said that the government has accorded permission to a wine shop in the village though they are demanding for canceling of the two existing wine shops for a long time.

She said that the daily wage workers in these colonies are spending their hard-earned money on liquor and are harassing the women in the area. The new shop, which also started in the residential area of the colony intensified their problems and is posing a threat to the security of girls and women in the colonies.

The Muslim women at Chirala staged a protest in front of the two liquor shops in the area near to the masjid and residential area.

The women demanded the closure of two liquor shops at the Masjid centre in Perala on the Chirala to Bapatla road. They submitted a representation to the local MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan to see the liquor shops which are disturbing the peaceful atmosphere in the area are closed immediately.
