Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu warned of severe action against traders and middlemen who encourage black marketing.

Speaking over a tele-conference with the officials of civil supplies, horticulture, agriculture departments and district collectors at his residence at Undavalli on Wednesday, the Chief Minister directed them to be vigilant and monitor the prices of essential commodities and vegetables.

He asked the officials to ensure that there is no shortage of vegetables and essential commodities in the open market. He instructed them to increase the production of oil seeds, pulses and vegetables.

Farmers should be encouraged to cultivate vegetables. Seeds should be supplied to ryots on subsidy and micro-nutrients free of cost.

Recalling that the State government had earlier controlled the prices of red gram and onions through market intervention, Naidu asked the marketing officials to take measures to control the prices of essential commodities. Civil Supplies officials should monitor the prices on a day-to-day basis. Poor and middle class people should not suffer due to price rise.

Naidu asked the officials to strengthen the Rythu Bazaars. He instructed the officials to purchase tomatoes from Madanapalle farmers at Rs 52 per kilo and sell them in Rythu Bazaars at nominal prices.

Civil Supplies Minister P Pulla Rao briefed the Chief Minister on the measures being taken to study the price variation after implementation of GST.

“We have conducted inspections on cinema theatres and big malls where water bottles and cool drinks are being sold at high rates and initiated action against them,” the Minister said.

Principal Secretary of Marketing Department Rajasekhar, Agriculture Commissioner Mallikarjuna Rao, Horticulture Commissioner Chiranjivi, Rythu Bazaars CEO Ramanamurthy and other officials were present.
