Chittoor: Industries Minister N Amaranatha Reddy said that it is proud for the district to host state-level Independence Day celebrations in Tirupati. Speaking to The Hans India, the Minister said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would take part in the celebrations.
He stated that the Chief Minister preferred Tirupati to organise Independence Day celebrations as it is a famous pilgrim city. He gave a call to district residents especially Tirupati to make the fete success.
As the district officials are busy in making arrangements for Independence Day celebrations at Tirupati, the district-level Independence Day celebrations which were supposed to be held at Chittoor were cancelled. The Minister stated that the Chief Minister has instructed him to participate in Independence Day celebrations to be held at Nellore.
Amaranatha Reddy said that the Chief Minister is committed for the development of Chittoor district. Asked about the prevailing drought conditions in the district, Reddy said that the drinking water would be supplied to Kuppam within a month.
The water for irrigation needs of Kuppam, Palamaner and Punganur mandals would be provided from HNSS Kuppam branch canal. He admitted that drought spell was prevailing in western parts of the district while the groundnut crop is on the verge of withering.
Instructions were given to Joint Director of Agriculture to resume rain gun operations with immediate effect.
The Minister also said that 2,000 rain guns are available in the district to distribute for the needy farmers. He made it clear that not a single groundnut crop should be allowed from withering. Frequent wetting of the withering groundnut crop would help the farmers in a big way, the Minister added.
