Girls in Tech Foundation in association with the state government and the US Consulate General, Hyderabad, in collaboration with IBM and Wave Labs at Andhra University will be organising a two-day Hackathon on August 19 and 20 in the city.

Visakhapatnam: Girls in Tech Foundation in association with the state government and the US Consulate General, Hyderabad, in collaboration with IBM and Wave Labs at Andhra University will be organising a two-day Hackathon on August 19 and 20 in the city.

The areas the Hackathon would focus are collaborative governance, improved accessibility to physical infrastructure, eco- friendly solutions for Smart City and empowering women. This is the first women event for Smart Cities in the country and each team is supported by a mentor who is an industrial expert.

Corporate professionals will assist the teams based on platform or technology chosen for the event. The teams assisted by mentors present their work to a panel of judges for final judging on finale day evening and to bring the solutions as part of the Hackathon to reality to assist on Smart Cities and possible public policy suggestions.

The best solution will be awarded. Applications are invited from girl students aged between 20 and 25 years to participate in the Hackathon. Registration and training are free. Last date to apply for the participation is August 12. Only students from engineering and computer applications background are eligible. Students, who are in the final year of their engineeringm can also apply.

Girls should have the knowledge on web technologies like HTML, CSS, Bootstrap or knowledge in any one of either server-side technologies or client-side technologies (mobile /web).

Server-side technology stack can be NodeJS, Java Spring, Ruby-on-Rails, Python or C#. Client-side technology stack can be any single page architecture framework like Angular JS, React JS or any similar framework.

Mobile apps can be developed using native or cross platform technologies like React Native. Proficiency in spoken and written English is a must for all the candidates.Interested persons were asked to register their names by logging on to www.shebuildstech.com
