He was speaking at a two-day conference on ‘Rivers conservation- Students Partnership’ which was jointly organised by KBN College National Service Scheme and Isha Foundation at the college auditorium here on Saturday.

Krishnamurthy said that as per the Indian tradition, rivers are treated as god, and with the growing industrialisation and technology, the nature and environment were being neglected resulting in drying of rivers which were continuously flowing for centuries. Hence, imbalance in rainfall leading to drought or excess rain, he pointed out.

KBN College principal Dr V Narayana Rao said that Yoga Guru Jaggi Vasudev had started a movement on river conservation and invited all the students to be a part of the movement. “We cannot live without rivers and neglecting and occupying the rivers, obstructing the flow of rivers would lead to destruction.”

He appealed to the students to create awareness among the people and society to safeguard the rivers for future. Isha Foundation representative Parvathi and Padmaja, college director Dr J Panduranga Rao, NSS unit - I officer A Sambasiva Rao and college students were present.
