Anantapur: CPM state secretary P Madhu called upon the ruling TDP government to take urgent measures to mitigate sufferings of drought affected people of Rayalaseema, Prakasam and Vizianagaram districts, apart from coming to the rescue of the farm labourers.

Addressing a press conference on the concluding day of 3-day state committee meeting, here on Saturday, Madhu said that due to failure of monsoon and existing of drought conditions agriculture production has declined in 21.5 lakh hectares. In Rayalaseema the cultivation acreage has come down in 17 lakh hectares.

“At a time when drought is persisting for over 3 years in the state, the government is talking about achieving double digit growth in agriculture production.

Groundnut production is at an all-time low in Kurnool and Anantapur,” he pointed out.The CPM state secretary accused the government for doing nothing to create jobs. “Thousands of jobs were scrapped in the government and while huge investments were said claimed to be coming, the investments are not generating jobs,” he charged.
