Kakinada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu quipped that he has no ‘Somavaaram (Monday) but only Polavaram’. He termed Polavram Project as life blood of the state, while addressing a public meeting at Jaggampeta, near here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that farmers in Rajanagaram, Prathipadu, Jaggampeta, Peddapuram and Pithapuram constituencies would benefit with Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme (PPLIS).

“We have created history by linking Krishna and Godavari rivers. Even though people with malicious intent created hurdles for Pattiseema and PPLIs, we prevailed,” he noted. He informed that as much as Rs 44,000 crore has been spent on different irrigation projects in the past three years and another Rs 10,000 crore would be spent on other projects.

“We will take responsibility of farmers in the state,” he asserted and urged the people to preserve and conserve water. “If we do not conserve water, we will have only tears. It is the responsibility of everyone to protect water bodies,” he stated.

Naidu reiterated that their government established a Corporation for Kapu community and Rs 1,000 crore were sanctioned as promised in elections. On the occasion, he announced a degree college to Kirlampudi. Earlier, he laid a foundation stone for a stadium at Jaggampeta, which was to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore.
