They were on work when the incident happened. Thirty-year-old accused P Hari Santosh used to stalk Potnuru Roopa, a second year degree student, studying in a private college in Tagarapuvalasa. Twenty-year-old girl Roopa used to stay in T Nagarapalemunder Bhimilimandal, about 25 kilometres from Vizag. She refused to talk to Hari,who used to continuously pester her.

Circle Inspector of Bhimili G Bala Surya Rao said the incident took place around noon when the girl and her brother Upendra were at home.Hari Santosh entered Roopa's house with a can of kerosene and poured on her and set her ablaze. Roopa’s brother tried to stop Hari, but ended up receiving serious burn injuries.

Roopa died on the spot. After committing the crime, Hari Santosh fled from the area and an hour later his body was found in pieces on a railway track near Vizianagaram. Upendra was admitted to King George Hospital where he is undergoing treatment for burns, the circle inspector said.
The Bhimili police have registered a case under Section 302 of IPC and are investigating.
