Visakhapatnam: As there is no cooperation either from the private industry or corporate sector, Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) has failed to provide employment to the successful skilled youth. Meanwhile, the youth who got jobs are returning homes unable to adjust with meagre salaries at metro cities.

Even as the government is spending huge funds to provide additional skills to the unemployed youth, only less percentage of youth are getting jobs through APSSDC. The APSDC has been giving training in various skills to the educated youth.

The corporation has given training to 1.75 lakh youth across the state and of them only 34,000 got the jobs.The minimum salary is Rs 8,000 and maximum is Rs 15,000. Majority of the jobs are being offered at Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore and the youth are unable to sustain with this salaryin these cities.

The APSSDC in order to provide jobs in the local areas has undertaken efforts to find out the vacancies in local areas. However, except some of the public sector units and some establishments, the private industry and corporate companies are not joining hands with APSSDC. Even the units in MSME sector also not coming forward to provide jobs through APSDC.

“The APSSDC’s initiation is good. But, if I take unemployed youth through APSSDC, I have to follow several government guidelines. They will insist on a payment of minimum salary of Rs 8,000 and I have to provide statutory benefits also to each employee. Everything will be on paper.

After the demonetisation and GST, the business has been badly affected. Meanwhile, the APSSDC is providing skill development training in general but not particular industry need based training,” a senior official from one of the leading small-scale industry units opined. The skill development training institutions in the state have also accepting the same.

The officials who have been engaged and leading the training centres are saying that the educated youth of all qualifications right from ITI to Engineering are coming with certificates, but not having minimum practical knowledge.

“Majority of the youth joining in the skill development institutions are raw hands. It is the situation that is prevailing in the institutions,” a chief manager rank official of a leading skill development centre lamented.

When contacted, Chief Executive Officer of APSSDC, KV Satyanarayana said that Skill Development Training has just started in India and in AP as well. There is a long journey with endless work. “The statistics are true, but the APSSDC is giving eight- stage training programmes. We are segregating the youth as freshers, semi-skilled and skilled.

According to the strengths of the youth, the training part will be decided. The skill development training has also started right from schooling to college education. Though the government companies and PSUs are coming forward, the private and corporate sector is not responding well,” CEO K V Satyanarayana said.
