Anantapur: Communist Party of India (Marxist) district leader Rambhupal has demanded the state government should increase the allocation of Krishna water from 40 to 100 tmcft of water through the Handri-Neeva project to cater to the ayacut area of 3.5 lakh acres in the district.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Rambhupal demanded the government to complete Handri-Neeva project phase I and II on a war footing. He said that the Polavaram project should be completed on a mission mode and the surplus waters from the Srisailam dam should be diverted to Anantapur district.

He said that in view of poor monsoon conditions and recurring of droughts every year and the poor inflows into Tungabhadra dam in Karnataka should prompt the government to increase water allocation to the district.

Presently, there is only 52 tmcft of water in Tungabhadra dam. The Irrigation Development Board meeting slated for August 26th may take a decision to release 2-3 tmcft of water to the district for drinking water purpose.
