Bakrid, the festival of sacrifice, was celebrated with gaiety and fervour in the city on Saturday. Thousands of Muslims offered prayers at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, Gandhiji Municipal High school, Chitti Nagar Eidgah, Ajit Singh Nagar Eidgah, Wynch Pet Gandhi Bomma Centre, SKPV School at Gandhi Nagar, Sanath Nagar and other parts of the city.

Vijayawada: Bakrid, the festival of sacrifice, was celebrated with gaiety and fervour in the city on Saturday. Thousands of Muslims offered prayers at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, Gandhiji Municipal High school, Chitti Nagar Eidgah, Ajit Singh Nagar Eidgah, Wynch Pet Gandhi Bomma Centre, SKPV School at Gandhi Nagar, Sanath Nagar and other parts of the city.

The organisers have made special arrangements for namaz at these open grounds and Eidgahs. Resembling communal harmony, Muslims, Hindus and Christians exchanged greetings to mark the Bakrid festival. Similarly, prayers were held at historical Jumma Masjid at One Town, Shahi Masjid at Wynchpet, Minar Masjid at Islam Pet and other old mosques in the city.
Wearing traditional dresses and caps Muslims offered prayers and exchanged greetings.

Clerics offered prayers for the world peace, communal harmony and brotherhood among the people. Tight security was posted near all mosques in the city since morning to prevent any untoward incident. TDP leaders Devineni Avinash, Nagul Meera, Pattabhi and others greeted Muslims at the IGMC Stadium. Muslim Development Society president Muneer Ahmed and others welcomed the TDP leaders.
