Kakinada: Collector Kartikeya Mishra on Wednesday said that a programme on sanitation, cleanliness and hygiene will be launched in the district from September 15 to October 2 under Swachhate Seva. Reviewing a meeting on Swachhate Seva at Vidhanagautami Hall at Collectorate with all the special officers, revenue officials and MPDOs, he said that public participation is important in maintenance of sanitation and hygiene.

Stating that the programme will first start at mandal-level and village-level by the participation of respective people’s representatives with the help of government officials, he said under the programme the government would construct 100 to 150 individual lavatories in all the villages.

Under the programme, Mishra said Swachhata Sena will be formed with a group of 20 members from NCC and DWACRA and they should supervise the sanitation in villages on September 16. He told that meetings would be arranged on September 17-18 to create awareness on personal health and hygiene,

workshops on solid and liquid waste management on September 19, rallies on sanitation on September 20, awareness programmes on health, identification of open defecation spots to avoid it, Sramadan at water bodies, river side areas, discussions with religious leaders on sanitation, cleaning of hospitals, bus stations, railway stations were also planned from September 21 to 29.

Mishra also instructed the officials to arrange Kalajathas at all public places and railway stations to popularise sanitation works.He instructed the officials to prepare list of open- defecation free villages by September 30. He said awards would be presented to persons and organisations who actively participated in the Swachhate Seva on October 2. Mishra said that they will declare the entire district open defection free in coming two months.
