MLA Adireddy Appa Rao on Thursday said that the government cannot be a mere spectator if proper medical aid was not provided to people in the government headquarters hospital, as the government is spending crores of rupees in this regard.

He, along with hospital superintendent Dr Ramesh Kishore, inspected the maternity ward here on Thursday based on many complaints received. He took senior doctor Vishnu Vardhini to task and expressed unhappiness over her attitude showing towards patients in maternity ward and asked her not to repeat the same again.
Later, he said the government was keen to provide corporate medical aid to people coming to government hospitals. Stern action will be taken against doctors who fail to work up to the satisfaction of government. Many are complaining against maternity ward and the respective doctors are referring cases to the government general hospital Kakinada without proper reason.
He questioned the doctors why they are behaving rudely with pregnant women in the ward and advised them to mend their attitude. The MLC asked them to give confidence among patients as they honour them as Gods.
Lack of coordination between the staff is main problem in the hospital and asked the superintendent to rectify it immediately, he said.
