Visakhapatnam: The city will host a week-long events to mark the World Tourism Day beginning from Wednesday. The programmes will showcase the rich culture and traditions of the north-coastal Andhra.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Home Minister N Chinarajappa said that the State government has decided to conduct the festival to attract not only domestic tourists but also foreign nationals.
The venue of the celebrations will be RK Beach and the celebrations will begin from Wendeday morning and the main events would be held from 6 pm onwards.

Happy street programme would be held from 5 am to 8 am and from 4 pm to 8 pm cultural programmes representing various states will be held.

``Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu wants to make the State as the tourism hub and decided to spend large amounts of money in some districts which are popular among the tourists,’’ Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.

There will be programmes every day with film stars entertaining the crowds. Well known actor Mahesh Babu will be present on September 30 on the occasion of Dusserah. Other actors Ravi Teja and Nara Rohit are expected to take part in the celebrations.

The district is developing as a major tourist centre and the State government has put its main focus here, said Home Minister n Chinarajappa. Many projects are nearing completion.

``We are taking up Dallapalle, Safe Swimming Zone and Buddhist circuit with an amount of Rs 166 crore,’’ Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.

Araku valley eco-tourism, Araku, Paderu Foodcourt, Tribal Museum and other tourism projects are in DPR stage, he added.
Both the ministers released a poster `Paryataka Dasaravali Sambaralu’ after the press briefing. Collector Pravin Kumar and other officials were present on the occasion.
