A four-member inter-state robbers’ gang was busted and stolen gold and silver articles worth Rs 7.5 lakh recovered from their possession. The arrested were identified as Avula Niduma Modappa of Anantapur district, Avula Venkata Ramana, Avula Mallikarjuna Rao and Golla Bobbili.

Amalapuram: A four-member inter-state robbers’ gang was busted and stolen gold and silver articles worth Rs 7.5 lakh recovered from their possession. The arrested were identified as Avula Niduma Modappa of Anantapur district, Avula Venkata Ramana, Avula Mallikarjuna Rao and Golla Bobbili.

There were 70 cases registered against the kingpin Modappa and 30 against Venkata Ramana and 15 cases were registered against each of the rest of the gang members.

On September 19, the gang struck at a temple at Bhatnavilli in Amalapuram rural mandal. The locals tried to resist them while they were decamping with booty of temple ornaments but they threatened to kill them with crowbars.
The police registered a case against them and erected check-posts at various places to thwart their attempts to flee from Konaseema region.

They were apprehended at Vanapalli in Kothapeta mandal. On September 14, they struck at Saibaba temple in Nallajarla road in Tadepalligudem of West Godavari district and at Saibaba temple adjacent to highway in Nandigama of Krishna district.

The DSP Prasanna Kumar appreciated CI Devakumar and Taluka SI Gajendra Kumar for playing an important role in cracking the case.
