The Central government has proposed to start a medical college attached to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Vijayawada soon.

Vijayawada: The Central government has proposed to start a medical college attached to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Vijayawada soon.

Officials have already taken premises for lease to start classes for college from the next academic year. The Centre will fill the professors and other posts on all-India level basis in AIIMS. The MBBS seats in the college will be filled based on the merit marks in the all-India level entrance examination.

Similarly, PG medical courses and super specialty courses will be started later. Medical and health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said that they had taken all steps to start classes in the AIIMS in the temporary premises soon. As soon as permanent buildings are constructed, the medical college will be shifted to Mangalagiri town.

AP Medical Infrastructure Corporation chairman R Lakshmipati said, “The government will start AIIMS in a leased building premises from the next academic year in Vijayawada for the convenience of students. As soon as permanent buildings constructed, we will shift medical college to the new premises.”
