Chittoor: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed District Collector P S Pradyumna to submit a report over the alleged lapses of the management of the Christian Medical College (CMC), in establishing a full-fledged super speciality hospital at Chittoor as per the agreement with the AP government.

It may be recalled here that the AP government had allocated 608 acres to CMC, a decade ago, at Mapakshi near Chittoor. The then Chittoor MLA C K Babu was instrumental in convincing the Vellore-based CMC to set up its wing at Chittoor. Former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had encouraged the CMC to establish its branch by allocating land for nominal cost. It is learnt that the CMC had remitted Rs 6 crore to the AP government towards the land. The CMC failed to fulfil its commitment of setting up hospital with all facilities.

Chittoor RDO Kodandarami Reddy has sent several reminders to make use of land as it was given with a noble intention. The CMC had used only 15.10 acres for the construction of hospital blocks and the remaining land is lying idle. Recently, Chittoor Mayor K Hemalatha submitted a proposal to the Chief Minister, when he came to the district, to take back unused land of 550 acres from CMC and construct houses
under NTR Housing Scheme.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Saturday, Kodandarami Reddy admitted that he was instructed by the District Collector to submit a report over the land allocated to the CMC. “CMC had agreed to construct a super speciality hospital; medical, pharmacy, and dental colleges, a nursing school and a bio-medical engineering college at Chittoor. The government wants to use unused land of CMC for some other project,” he said and added that he would submit a report to the Collector within
2 days.
