In a significant move, Andhra University has come up with five sub-committees on Friday in order to figure out the ways for implementing the committee recommendations that was constituted to probe into the alleged irregularities during the tenure of Vice-Chancellor Prof GSN Raju.

Visakhapatnam: In a significant move, Andhra University has come up with five sub-committees on Friday in order to figure out the ways for implementing the committee recommendations that was constituted to probe into the alleged irregularities during the tenure of Vice-Chancellor Prof GSN Raju.

In another major development, Andhra University College of Arts and Commerce principal and Prof K Gayatri Devi has been appointed as the new Rector for Andhra University. Apart from these, some of the major decisions were taken during the meeting of Executive Council (EC) which met at the Andhra University Campus here on Friday.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao informed that the sub-committees will submit their report in 15 days. According to the Vice-Chancellor, in order to take the final call, the sub-committees’ recommendations would be tabled for discussion in the next Executive Council meeting which will be likely held in the second week of November.

The Executive Council meeting has decided to release a notification to fill backlog non-teaching vacancies, he said adding that the 85th convocation of the varsity will be held in January 2018. It is learnt that the department of education and the Institute of Advanced Study in education will be merged to form the School of Education.

Other slew of decisions taken include changing some of the deans of the varsity as well as setting up a 400-metre national flag in the varsity. It may be noted that the Andhra University Executive Council meeting was held based on the recent directive of the High Court to convene the executive council and implement the committee’s recommendations.

Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education on October 5 told the varsity officials forward them an ‘Action Taken Report’ over the recommendations of the committee in 90 days.
