  • Four murders within two weeks have created panic among locals and pilgrims
  • A special party with 180 cops formed to control anti-social activities: Urban SP

A taxi driver P Mohan was killed by 12 other taxi drivers at taxi stand near Vishnu Nivasam on October 12. The murder spot is located opposite railway station. Old rivalry between two groups is said to be the reason behind murder. A young man Mahesh was killed by his four business associates over an illegal affair with a woman near Alipiri check-post on October 15.

Later, they dumped the body in forest and set it on fire. The police found an unidentified body with knife stabbings near railway station a week ago. All these murders took place in pilgrim residing areas like Vishnu Nivasam and Srinivasam.

Locals say taxi drivers, who divided into three groups, are disturbing the law and order situation. Each group is trying to dominate other two groups with the support of ruling party leaders. The taxi drivers, who are operating between Tirumala and Tirupati, led by group leaders want to grab as much as business possible.

Despite having information, the police officials are hesitant to take action against taxi drivers as they are the followers of ruling TDP leaders. The rise in anti-social activities for the last one year had dented the image of pilgrim city. Speaking to The Hans India, social activist K Bhanu Prakash has criticised the police officials for failing to maintain law and order in Tirupati.

Urban SP Abhishek Mohanty told The Hans India that a special party with 180 police personnel was formed under the direct guidance of SP to control the anti-social activities.
