Nellore: Giving a jolt to the YSR Congress party in the district, after a huge lull, police filed a charge-sheet against Sarvepalli MLA and YSR Congress district convener Kakani Govardhan Reddy in the court for making allegations against Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, as the forensic wing reportedly confirmed that the documents produced by the MLA were not genuine.

It may be recalled that the Sarvepalli legislator alleged in last December that senior TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy accumulated huge properties to the tune of Rs 500 cr in countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate and other agencies into the issue as the Prime Minister assured to bring back black money from other countries.

The MLA alleged that Somireddy had purchased 68.3 acres of land and another property in Nilai city in Malaysia worth 1.35 lakh Malaysian Ringgits each and that cost around Rs 40.5 crore in Indian currency. Somireddy also possessed properties in Brick field, Kuala Lumpur worth 7.50 lakh Malaysian Ringgits (Rs 1.12 cr) in Malaysia, he further alleged.

Govardhan Reddy also said that transactions were made from June 15, 2013 through Kumar Periyaswamy, Raman Singh, Ramaswamy Veeran, MD of Merchan Trade in the names of Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, his son Somireddy Rajagopal Reddy, and his wife Somireddy Jyothi to the tune of Rs 180 cr.

He also made several allegations against the then MLC and now Agriculture Minister for alleged involvement in Hawala transactions and also shares in power projects in the country.

Subsequently, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy lodged a complaint with rural police in the same month against YSR Congress MLA Govardhan Reddy for making ‘baseless allegations’ with the help of fake documents. Rural police registered the complaint and the SP also deputed a team of officials for probing into the allegations made by the legislator.

Now, police also collected information that Somireddy had not travelled during the time and visited the places as alleged by the MLA Kakani. Police mentioned MLA Kakani, P Chiranjeevi alias Manimohan and his assistants Venkata Krishna and Hariharan as accused in the case.

Police arrested the accused who allegedly helped the MLA during last January. The charge-sheet was filed at the Fourth Additional Judicial Magistrate’s court along with a huge list of 23 witnesses in the case. Nellore Rural DSP K Raghava Reddy said they had filed the charge-sheet in the court.
