Srisailam: Devotees in large numbers thronged the Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swamy Devasthanam here on the first Monday of the ‘Karthika Masam’, after taking a holy dip in River Krishna at the Patala Ganga. Serpentine queues were witnessed at the temple premises.

The officials of the Devasthanam, in anticipation of the large gathering, had changed the temple timings. The shrine was opened at 2.30 AM. At 3 AM, the priests performed ‘Subrabhata Seva’, ‘Prata Kalapooja’, ‘Maha Mangala Harathi’.

Later, the devotees were allowed to have ‘Sarva Darshan’ of the Lord and perform ‘Arjita Seva’. The temple authorities had also suspended the sale of tickets for ‘Suprabhata Seva’ and ’Managala Harathi’, Executive Officer Bharat Gupta said in a press release.

In the evening, ‘Laksha Deepotsavam’ was organised in the Pushkarini. The bedecked deities were brought to a specially erected platform near the Pushkarini. It was followed by ‘Deepotsavam’, where people prayed for adequate rain/crops, wellbeing of the people and avoidance of drought/unseasonal weather conditions.
