Kanikalamma tank bed under encroachment
At least 30 leaders of various political hues have encroached 200 acres of the 380-acre Kanikalamma tank bed on the outskirts of Guvvalakuntla and Veerapuram and Kottapalli during the last two decades.

Meanwhile, they have sunk agriculture bore wells and energised them to cultivate paddy. They increased the height of the tank bund rendering the lands under the ayacut marshy. The encroachers have been cultivating the lands ‘threatening’ the officials, some of the ayacut farmers alleged.
The incident came to light when a former mandal parishad president raked up the issue at the recent mandal parishad review meeting. When the VRO and the irrigation engineer have been contacted for their reaction, they apparently switched off their mobile phones. Even if contacted, their stock reply would be that they are not aware of the survey numbers of lands.
