For many children, including adults, understanding about space and astronomy is a bit tricky and they feel it is rocket science.  As part of creating awareness about the space education among children, Moonshot Wheels, a bus exhibition programme has come to the city.

Visakhapatnam: For many children, including adults, understanding about space and astronomy is a bit tricky and they feel it is rocket science. As part of creating awareness about the space education among children, Moonshot Wheels, a bus exhibition programme has come to the city. The bus stationed at RP Peta GVMC High School, Kancharapalem, attempts to engage young minds with space education and make them aware of concepts related to space and astronomy, video screenings and do it yourself activities are being organised for the students.

According to organisers, the science fair on the wheels will be stationed at the school for five days, giving a free entry for students. It is expected that the children will get to engage with models that explain concepts related to astronomy and space science. Besides, the students have a chance to learn about moon rover prepared by Team Indus and watch interactive videos.

“Trained instructors travel in the bus equipped with astronomical models provided by Agastya across the country and at each location they will teach local young instructors for two days,” the Project Director Bharat Kumar said adding that bus was scheduled to cover 20 locations across 11 states in the country covering 300 children per day during five-day fair.

In Andhra Pradesh, only Visakhapatnam was selected to put up the fair. The organisers said the programme was mainly focused on government school students. Agastya identifies the underprivileged students at each location and impart training to young instructors with help of local instructors in their local language. It was said that nearly 35,000 school children will get a chance to visit the bus fair. Thousands of students from nearby schools in and around Kancharapalem thronging the expo.
