The farmers decided to meet the Chief Minister at Assembly to narrate their woes on crop failure in 2016. More than 200 farmers suffered chilly crop loss due to use of fake seeds last year. Nearly 40 chilly farmers from Gamapalagudem began Chalo Assembly on Wednesday demanding justice from the government. But, the alert police arrested some of them and brought to Nunna police station.

Upset with the attitude of police, three farmers B Purna, Vaddera Tirupati Rao and G Ramaiah attempted to commit suicide by consuming pesticide near the police station. Shocked with the incident, the police immediately shifted them to Government General Hospital for treatment. The three farmers are out of danger.

The farmers had been struggling for nearly six months to get compensation of Rs 2.13 crore announced by the district administration. The district collector earlier issued orders to pay compensation under the RR Act. The affected farmers are alleged the revenue officials had failed to pay compensation. In this backdrop, they decided to meet CM and began march for Chalo Assembly from Gampalagudem mandal. CPM, CPI and YSRCP leaders extended their support to farmers.

The leaders also visited government hospital and consoled the farmers. CPM state leader Chiguripati Baburao, former MLA and YSRCP city working president Malladi Vishnu demanded for payment of compensation to farmers. They also demanded that action be taken against the officials for neglecting in paying compensation to chilli farmers.

Krishna district joint collector Vijaya Krishnan on Wednesday night visited the government hospital and consoled the three farmers, who attempted to end their lives by consuming pesticide near Nunna police station. She assured proper compensation would be paid at the earliest.
