Pesticide residues in food harmful, says oncologist

Vijayawada: Ravi Care Hospital oncologist Dr Bobba Ravi Kiran, has said that pesticide residues in the vegetables and other food items are leading to cancer and lung diseases.

He addressed a meeting held at Siddhartha Pharmaceutical College of Sciences here on Wednesday.

He said that antibiotics were also being sprayed on prawns and eggs. Those who consume such prawns and eggs were getting cancer and other health problems. He stressed on need to reduce spraying of chemicals on vegetables and fruits as a precautionary measure.

Pharmacy College principal Dr Devala Rao was among those present in the meeting. Pharmacy wing head Dr V Karuna Sri was present.
