President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate TU-142 Aircraft Museum on Thursday. The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) developed the aircraft into a museum in association with the Eastern Naval Command. Governor ELS Narasimhan and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will present at the inaugural ceremony.

The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) developed the aircraft into a museum in association with the Eastern Naval Command. Governor ELS Narasimhan and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will present at the inaugural ceremony.
The aircraft was designed by Tupolev (TU) Design Bureau, Erstwhile USSR. The aircraft is the world’s best maritime reconnaissance and bomber and fastest turbo propeller ever made in the world.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Vice- Chairman of VUDA P Basanth Kumar said that the craft handed over to the state government on April 8, 2017 for converting into a museum and maintenance by the VUDA in a phased manner The entire project was developed at a cost of Rs 14 crore and totally funded by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department, the Vice-Chairman said.
An aesthetic dome was erected to house the museum comprising heritage room, training room, equipment room, awards zone, war zone, audio visual room with virtual reality headsets. The aircraft museum was located opposite INS Kurusura Submarine Museum on the Beach Road.
The museum was set up in one-acre land. The dome structure will lead to a lift for elderly and physically challenged and a stair case for others which will land the tourists on to an aero bridge specially created for entry into the aircraft. The craft is divided into different compartments, including cockpit, machinery compartment, bombs compartment and gunner compartment.
A simulation game zone was created to give hands on feel of navigating the war aircraft with 360 and 720 degrees of manoeuvrability. One curator and two guides one each in the museum and aircraft will be available to supplement the information on requirements, if any to the tourists.
