Vijayawada: Victims of AgriGold scam will launch 30 hours Satyagraha, a silent protest, at Hanumantharaya Grandhalayam in Gandhi Nagar on Monday to get justice.

The family members of 150 deceased AgriGold customers and agents will take part in Satyagraha, which will begin at 10 am on December 18 and will continue the next day. It may be recalled that nearly 150 AgriGold customers and agents died during the last two years either by committing suicide or due to illness after the scam broke out in the state in 2015.

After a series of protests for justice, the State government sanctioned Rs 5 crore for payment of compensation to kin of families. Each family will get compensation of Rs 5 lakh as per the orders issued by the government.

However, only two families received the compensation in the state so far, said Muppalla Nageswara Rao, president, AgriGold Customers and Agents Association.

He said the association would ask for payment of compensation to all families as announced by the government in September 2017. “The government officials are asking family members to show the post-mortem report but most of family members have not taken it as they were not aware that the government will ask for it,” he added.

He said the government has given alternative option asking family members of victims to get certificates from nearby police stations as proof of death. Despite making continuous efforts to get compensation, more than 140 families have not received it, he said and added now these families are coming to Vijayawada to participate in the Satyagraha.

On the other hand, the victims have submitted copies of bond papers, payment receipts, Aadhaar number and bank account details as part of investigation to CID officials in November and December.
