Crime rate against women on the rise

Visakhapatnam: Women wing leaders of YSR Congress Party alleged that there is no security to women in Visakhapatnam. In recent times, attacks, rapes and murders have been increased across the state. The state government had failed to take any measures for the security of the women, the leaders lamented.

Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, party leaders P Usha Kiran, Garikana Gowri, Merugumala Sree Devi, Dhanalatha, Jhansi and others said that attacks on the women of all ages have been increasing in the city but the government is not taking stringent action against the accused.

An auto-rickshaw driver raped a woman at Railway New Colony, TDP MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murty’s followers attacked and brutally beaten up an SC woman to grab her land in Jerripothulapalem, and now a minor tribal dumb girl was brutally raped in broad daylight at Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ), Duvvada. Meanwhile, there are reports that some of the teachers are also molesting the girl students. On an average, every day, one woman is being attacked in the district, they pointed out.

Statistics in the police crime reviews also stating that attacks on the women and children have been increased across the state. There is no security to the school girls, working women and even housewives in the state. The government should take stringent action against the accused, Usha Kiran, Gowri and Sree Devi demanded.
