Addressing a meeting at a private hotel here on Saturday, the Horticulture Commissioner said that the state government has entered into an agreement with a Japanese company, KAGAME Company Limited, to create global demand for tomatoes produced in Chittoor and Anantapur districts. He gave a call to tomato farmers to achieve high yield with less expenditure by adopting latest technologies.

He lamented that farmers are incurring losses due to excess production of tomatoes in the Rabi season. He stressed on the need for construction of cold storage units for tomatoes. He asked the farmers to change the mindset and follow latest marketing trends to get support price. Khago Hugho Kajinvaa, the Indian representative of KAGAME, has explained the prospectus of tomato in Japan.

District Processing Units Association President K Balakrishna Reddy and others have explained the challenges being faced by them in promoting their products. The farmers made an appeal to the Horticulture Commissioner to take immediate steps for strengthening tomato market in Madanapalle division. APMIP Assistant Director Vidya Sankar and other officials were present.
