Visakhapatnam: Two Intermediate students drowned in Meghadrigedda reservoir near here on Thursday. The students were identified as S Jagadish, resident of Sabbavaram and PVVS Srikar, resident of NAD Junction in the city.

Both were good friends and were studying at Sri Chaitanya College, NAD Campus. In view of Sankranti holidays, a group of second year students went to Meghadrigedda reservoir and enjoyed sometime. Later, they entered into the waters for swimming. Unable to judge depth of the reservoir, Jagadish and Srikar drowned in the reservoir.

The other students, who were watching them, shouted for help, but in vain. There were no villagers at the spot. The students informed to the police about the incident. The police rushed to the spot and started to retrieve the students by deploying expert swimmers.

After one and half-hours exercise, the swimmers found Srikar’s body. As night falls, the searching operations were temporarily stopped. Pendurthy police said the body was sent for post-mortem and search operations to trace another missing student will be resumed on Friday morning.
