Eluru: Five persons, including a two-year old, were killed in two separate accidents in West Godavari district on Tuesday.

According to police, Jyosyula Suresh, a priest of Manepalli village in Gandepalli mandal in East Godavari, along with his daughters Jyosyula Nischala (two), Jyosyula Suvarchala, his sister Ponna Devi (30) and relative Poduri Surendra Raghunatha Kumar Sarma went to Vijayawada in a Nano car on Monday to hand over the ashes of Suresh’s wife, who died in a road accident two months ago, to his father-in-law Poduri Radhakrishna Murthy Sarma. Radhakrishna Murthy Sarma already reached Vijayawada by train and received the ashes from his son-in-law Suresh. Radhakrishna will be travelling to Kashi to immerse the ashes in the Ganges on Tuesday night.

After handing over the ashes, Suresh, along with others, was returning to their native place and reached Anantapalli village in Nallajerla mon Monday night around 11.40 pm. A speedy lorry hit the Nano car in which all the five members were travelling on National Highway. In this incident Ponna Devi (30), Jyosyula Nischala (two) died on the spot. On receiving information, police reached the spot and shifted the injured to Tadepalliugdem Government Hospital.

However, Suresh succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital. The remaining Jyoshula Suvarchala, Poduri Surendranatha Kumar were seriously injured. On receiving information, Suresh’s father-in-law Radhakrishna Murthy Sarma cancelled his tour to Kashi and reached Anantapalli. The injured, who were admitted to Tadepaliugdem, later shifted to Rajahmahendravaram for better treatment. Anantapalli Sub-Inspector V Chandrasekhar registered a case.

In another accident at Ajjamuru village in Akiveedu mandal in West Godavari district, two youth were killed on the spot when an APSRTC bus hit their bike at the check post. The victims were identified as Md Shakeel (18) of Nagar Kurnool in Telangana State and Uda Nagarjuna (18) of Rachampalem in Prakasham district.

Both attended a fish festival conducted at Fish Farm Training Centre at Krishi Vignana Kendram in Undi village on Monday. Shakeel was working as a lab technician in Karvyo Kick Biological Labs in Gudiwada. Nagarjuna was working as a salesman in GOWEL Bio-Chemicals at Gudiwada. As the fish festival concluded in the night, both stayed in Bhimavaram and were proceeding towards Gudiwada on Tuesday on a bike. When they reached the check post at Ajjamuru in Akiveedu mandal, an APSRTC bus coming from Eluru-Narsapur hit their bike. In this incident, both died on the spot. Akiveedu SI Sudhakar Reddy and other police personnel reached the spot and sent the bodies to post-mortem. A case has been registered in Akiveedu police station.
