Two drown in Pongonda reservoir
Two youth drowned in Pongonda reservoir at Dandipudi village of Buttayagudem mandal in the district on Sunday evening. According to information, seven students from Jangareddigudem went to Pongonda reservoir for a picnic.
Eluru (West Godavari district): Two youth drowned in Pongonda reservoir at Dandipudi village of Buttayagudem mandal in the district on Sunday evening. According to information, seven students from Jangareddigudem went to Pongonda reservoir for a picnic.
The Pongonda reservoir was constructed across the Baineru rivulet and water was stored in the reservoir and canals of the reservoir are brimming with water. The youngsters, including Nimmagadda Lakshminarayana, 25, an engineering graduate but engaged in cultivation in Jangareddigudem and Adapa Ganapati, 26, of Jangareddigudem village went into the reservoir’s canal to have a bath at about 3.30 pm.
As Lakshminarayana and Adapa Ganapati did not know swimming, they drowned in the canal. As the other five students cried out for help, locals rushed to the spot and brought out the bodies of Ganapati and Lakshminarayana. The Buttayagudem police visited the spot and shifted the bodies to the Jangareddigudem government hospital for post mortem.
