Congress gets ready for Special Category Status stir
District Congress Committee (DCC) announced its protest plan on Tuesday, for achieving the Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.
Nellore: District Congress Committee (DCC) announced its protest plan on Tuesday, for achieving the Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. The Congress activists would be staging Andhrula Atma Gourava Deeksha in front of all revenue divisional offices from February 23 to 28. They would also stage protests on the NH-16 on March 2, and Chalo Parliament on March 6, 7 and 8.
Interacting with the media, DCC president Dr Panabaka Krishnaiah said the Congress party would intensify the stir to mount pressure on the Central government to accord Special Category Status. He said that leaders and activists of Congress party would strive through intensified protests in front of the Revenue Divisional Offices. Krishnaiah has explained that they would stage protest at Gudur RDO office on February 23, on February 24 at Kavali, on 26th at Naidupeta, Atmakur and at Nellore RDO office on February 27.
DCC president explained that they would block the National Highway on March 2 and take part in ‘Chalo Parlaiment’ on March 6, 7 and 8. Krishnaiah also informed that PCC chief Raghuveera Reddy and former Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi would participate in the protests at Gudur on 23. He appealed to the Congress party leaders, activists and people to take part in the agitations to mount pressure on the central government for achieving the SCS.
“There is no allocation of funds for construction of Polavaram Project, permission to the proposed Dugarajapatnam port and no response to the demand of new railway zone in the budget,” said Krishnaiah. He lashed out the BJP-led NDA government for not awarding SCS or support through special package to the state in the budget. Congress leaders Chevuru Deva Kumar Reddy, C V Sesha Reddy, P Chenchala Babu, U Venkat Rao, Sivachary, P Seetharambabu and others were present.
