Amaravati: The State government has decided to provide publicity to the prestigious Polavaram Irrigation Project by filming, airing and promoting it through National Geographic Channel.
- On completion of filming, the channel will air a 22-minute documentary on Polavaram highlighting the history of the project, benefits, status of work till now and important events
- The State govt sanctions Rs 75 lakh to be paid to the channel for producing the documentary
The government has also given permission to the Water Resources Department to pay Rs 75 lakh to the National Geographic Channel from relevant head account of the project.
The decision of the State government is assuming significance in the backdrop of BJP and TDP engaging in one-upmanship to claim the credit over the project.
According to officials, Water Resources Minister and department officials held discussions with the National Geographic Channel (NGC) and allowed it to film the Polavaram Project to showcase the super structure precursor, the aspects such as history of the project, benefits, status of work till now, important events so far, interviews and 2D and 3D of Polavaram Project explaining how the completed project will look like. The NGC team told the government that the above aspects would be covered in 22 minutes documentary.
As per letter of Engineer-in-Chief of Polavaram Project to government, the National Geographic Channel wanted to film a 22-miniute documentary of the project and also reported that the total investment for production, airing and promotion would be Rs 75 lakh.
Following the proposal of the Engineer-in-Chief, the State government accorded permission to him for making a documentary film on Polavaram by National Geographic Channel team. The sum required for the purpose can be drawn from the relevant head of account of the project.
It may be noted that the State BJP leaders are seriously trying to own the credit for execution of Polavaram project works and already taking the credit for the merger of seven Telangana villages in AP to facilitate works on the dam.
