Vijayawada: Finally curtains have been downed on the month-long face off between the BJP and its ally - TDP as the latter has announced that it would quit the alliance.
The relationship between the two parties has been deteriorating with each passing day. The opposition party in Andhra Pradesh - YSRCP has nine MPs in Lok Sabha while the TDP has 16 MPs.
The BJP alone has 275 members in the House including two nominated members in the 536-member Lok Sabha. The BJP is supported by 56 members of its allies.
The no-confidence motion is accepted only if it gets support of atleast 50 members in the House.
Although the no-confidence motion is supported by all the MPs from both the TDP and the YSRCP, the NDA government will still have a numerical advantage in the Lok Sabha.
This is the first time YSRCP challenged the NDA after it came to power in 2014, through no-confidence motion. The motion is expected to be moved on March 21.
It may be recalled that two of the TDP Minister resigned from the Union Cabinet a week ago over the issue of special status.
YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote a letter to all the MPs of various parties seeking support for the motion. If mentioned in the letter that all his MPs would resign on April 6 if the Centre remains reluctant over the demand for special status for Andhra Pradesh.
