Kakinada: Seeking Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh, the left parties (CPI and CPM), Congress, YSRCP and Students Federation of India (SFI) leaders and activists staged a dharna at the Asian Development Bank road here on Thursday.

District leaders of all parties Tatipaka Madhu (CPI), Duvva Seshu Babji (CPM), Pantam Nanaji (DCC president), Kurasala Kanna Babu (YSRCP district president) and activists formed a huge human chain at the Atchampeta Junction and blocked the traffic.

The leaders raised slogans against the attitude of Union government. They raised slogans like “Pratyeka Hoda Andhrula Hakku,” “Sadhistam Sadhistam Pratyeka Hoda Sadhistam.” Speaking on the occasion, the leaders alleged that the Centre was intentionally delaying the process and said the BJP betrayed the people of AP.

During the blockade, the women played kabaddi at the Atchampeta junction. Timmapuram police rushed to the spot and arrested the district heads of all parties. Kakinada SDPO Ravi Varma persuaded them to quit the protest at the ADB Road as the transportation was badly hit by the protest.

At Balaji Cheruvu Centre, Kakinada City MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and Mayor Pavani and other TDP leaders staged a protest, raised slogans against the NDA government's obstinance towards the AP state.

At Sarpavaram Junction, rural TDP leaders conducted a rally and garlanded the NTR statue and submitted a memorandum to the statue. At Kothapeta, the TDP leaders obstructed the traffic and blocked the road protesting against the stubborn attitude of NDA government.
