Vijayawada: IndianOil, the state-owned multinational giant, has been concentrating on research through its research and development wing into various areas, said Dr SSV Ramakumar, Director of IndianOil, while interacting with the media here on Saturday.

“Primarily the R&D is developing five unique technologies like green solution for commercial vehicles, fuel cell technology, developing from Bharat Stage IV to Bharat Stage VI skipping Bharat State V, developing a special enzyme to prepare hydrogen-based clean fuel and nano-technology for batteries,” Dr Ramakumar said. Recalling the achievements of the R&D, he said that it was originally decided to develop Bharat State VI skipping BS V, by 2020. However, it was advanced by three years and the Bharat VI fuel was launched in Delhi in 2017, he said and added that it had good impact on reduction of emission.

Dr Ramakumar said that as part of searching for alternative energy, IndianOil is developing fuel cell technology through which electricity is generated by combining hydrogen and oxygen to producer water and heat. “With the help of latest technology, the combustion engines would be completely replaced,” he added. Nano technology intervention developed by IndianOil would be used in vehicular batteries, corrosion prevention in boilers and high temperature metal cutting gases like Nanocut LPG which is an alternative for Oxy Acetylene cutting gas, he said. Answering to a question, he said that the IndianOil is striving to take the fruits of research to the industry, defence and various other sectors by organising sector-wise meetings with the stakeholders.

The IndianOil has developed green solution for commercial vehicles by concentrating on how to reduce emissions. “Three lubricants—Engine oil, transmission oil and axil oil—are the three important oils which would help reduce the emissions,” he said and added that by developing these three oils, the company found green solution for the reduction of emissions. About the IndianOil, Dr Ramakumar said that IndianOil is the largest oil company in India and the Defence sector’s 95 per cent fuel requirement is met by the company.
