Water stagnation problem persists at Nizam Gate

Drain water is not passing through the drain into Budameru drain due to faulty design near Kamsali Peta. Railway track divides the Wynch Peta and Kamsali Peta.
Mayor Koneru Sridhar in the recently held municipal corporation council meeting expressed resentment over the waste of public money amounting to Rs 10 crore for the construction of drain. He questioned the engineering officials as to what was the use of modernising the underground drain at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
Local corporators Shaik Bibi Jan, Gade Lakshmi and Shaik Asif in the West Assembly constituency, too, are unhappy with the construction of the drain, which has no use.
Population in Wynch Peta, Mahantipuram and Kotha Peta, Nizam Gate area increased over the years. Consequently, water consumption, too, increased. But, the drains outflow capacity not increased. The drains were also not widened for many decades. As a result, rain water mingled with the drain water is getting stagnated on the roads during the rainy season. Mosquito menace is also very high in these colonies due to not flowing of drain waters under the railway tracks.
Now, the VMC has once again decided to study the drain near Nizam Gate and renovate it for free flow of rain water. The VMC after many years of efforts got permission from the railways for laying the readymade culverts under the tracks to drain out the water from Wynch Peta. But, due to faulty design, the water is not flowing and stagnating at Nizam Gate Centre. The problem is persisting for the last 70 years. Thousands of people are eagerly waiting to find a permanent solution to the long pending problem, said local resident Md Asad. During the monsoon the residents of Wynch Peta, Mahantipuram and Kotha Peta face difficulties due to stagnation of water on roads.
