The emergency general body meeting was held in corporation meeting hall here on Tuesday. Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan presided over the meeting. The meeting has discussed the Smart City project issue and stated that Andhra Pradesh Urban Infrastructure Asset Management Limited (APUIAML) has discussed the Smart City concept after considering the project report submitted by Shapoorji Pallonji Company.

Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan said that the project would be completed within two years and maintained for a decade. The municipal corporation would bear the maintenance, action plan implementation by spending Rs.346.02 crore. The remaining Rs 896.85 crore has to borne by the state government, she stated.

The meeting observed the government has to spend 35 per cent funds in the preliminary stage. The remaining 65 per cent would be spent by Shapoorji Pallomji Company.

The Mayor said that the municipal corporation would bear R 346.2 crore to maintain the Smart City over 10 years. Out of this, the first year, the corporation would bear Rs 16 crore, second year Rs 30.5 crore, third year Rs 33 crore, fourth-year Rs 34 crore, fifth-year Rs 34.4 crore , sixth year Rs.50.2 crore and remaining amount in the next three years.

YSR Congress Party floor leader Bandaru Kiran Kumar said how the amount would be released for the maintenance of the Smart City. The cooption member SMR Pedababu said that the municipal corporation may not spend municipal funds for the development works in the city after the launch of Smart City works.

He said that there would be no paucity of funds. Municipal Corporation Commissioner A Mohan Rao, Assistant Commissioner Jhansi Rani, Deputy Commissioner Rambabu, ME Seshagiri Rao, SE Surendra Babu, participated in the meeting.

Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan said that the government has selected various cities to develop them into Smart Cities. Initially, the Smart City works would be started as a pilot project in Eluru. A 15-member committee has been set up to supervise the works under the Chairmanship of Collector K Bhaskar.
