Package ready for Nuclear Power Plant-hit families

Srikakulam: The Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) package was okayed by the government to the affected families of Nuclear Power Plant at Kovvada village in Ranastalam mandal.

According to Hyderabad-based Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) survey, 1,883 project displaced families have been identified in six affected villages- Pedda Kovvada, Chinna Kovvada, Jeeru Kovvada, Ramachandrapuram, Tekkali and Gudem villages- in Ranastalam mandal. For rehabilitation of these families, 200 acres were identified at Dharmavaram village in Etcherla mandal.

In these lands, R&R Colony would be constructed. Each affected family would be paid Rs 6.86 lakh as a part of resettlement amount and youth, who attained 18 years of age, will get same the amount as youth package.

Revenue and land acquisition officials initiated process to form lay outs, approval, planning and tendering process for the construction of houses.
Out of the total displaced families, most of them are fishermen and the government is proposing a fishing harbour at the sea coast to ensure livelihood for them.

“We will start R&R package process next month after receiving objections from the people”, Srikakulam RDO Balivada Dayanidhi told The Hans India.
